Coco Tomita and Simon Callaghan
To mark the launch of her first album on the Orchid Classics label, former YMS pupil and BBC Young Musician of the Year 2020 finalist Coco Tomita gives a recital in The Menuhin Hall, accompanied by Simon Callaghan. They perform a trio of highly-contrasting Violin Sonatas, Mozart’s uncharacteristically relaxed K376 in F major, Ravel’s jazz and blues-inspired Violin Sonata No 2 and Grieg’s tumultuous Violin Sonata No 3, that are the perfect showcases for Coco’s extraordinary versatility. Also on the programme are the opening movement Mentrier (Minstrel), from Enescu’s Romanian folk-music infused suite Impressions d’enfance and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir d’un lieu cher, a three-movement homage to the peace and tranquility the composer found following his escape from an unhappy marriage to the sanctuary of his patron Nadezhda von Meck’s country estate. | This event will be preceded by a talk and Q&A at 5pm for Friends.
