“Here was a guitarist who knew how to laugh with the music and share the joke with his audience… Never was a standing ovation more richly deserved… Pavel Steidl had won the hearts and minds of a capacity crowd.” – Classical Guitar magazine Since winning First Prize at the Radio France International Guitar Competition in 1982, Czech virtuoso Pavel Steidl has become one of the world’s most highly acclaimed guitar soloists. He is particularly celebrated for his performances of the 19th-century Romantic guitar repertoire. As part of our Beethoven 250th birthday celebrations, his programme will include works by Vienna-based Beethoven contemporaries Mauro Giuliani (Rossiniane No 1 Op 119) and Luigi Legnani (Caprices Op 36), as well as a selection of pieces by Johann Kaspar Mertz, Niccolò Paganini and 20th-century composers.
