Showcase concert: Tuesday 14 July

The final concert includes a potpourri of styles and musical language, ranging from Bach and Telemann to Luciano Berio, and finishing off with the almost languid transcriptions of songs from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.

Berio wrote 34 duets, each of which is associated with one of his friends – apart from the first one, which ‘nods’ to the 44 Duos written by Bartók several decades earlier. The emerging tradition of songs being transcribed for solo instruments is picked up by Daniil Shafran’s transcription of the Four Serious Songs Op 121 of Brahms; the inclusion of solo pieces by Bach, Telemann and Ysaÿe provide a welcome contrast to the richness of the other repertoire presented here.

This concert will go live at 7.30pm on Tuesday 14 July.
