Showcase concert: Thursday 9 July

The music chosen for tonight’s concert comes from either side of the great mass of music that is considered to be in the Romantic era. We begin with Bach and his cheerful Gavotte en rondeau and after a quick excursion into the fireworks of a Paganini Caprice, we move into the more serious sound of Bach’s 5th Suite for solo cello – originally written in scordatura with the A-string tuned down to G.

Kuhlau’s piano sonata comes from a slightly later period, and then we jump to the beginning of the 20th century with Ysaÿe's 5th Sonata, a selection of Bartok’s duos and Ravel’s ever-popular Tzigane.

This concert will go live at 7.30pm on Thursday 9 July.
